Our goal in opening August Wines was simple: build the wine shop we want to see in West Ashley.

Specializing in smaller-production, lower-intervention wines from around the world, August Wines is a place to browse slowly, ask questions, and leave with something you're genuinely excited to open.

You won't find what's on our shelves at big-box retailers, and that's intentional. We carry wines that are honest about where they're from and how they're made - and of course, taste great!

Whether you're a wine lover or simply wine-curious, we'd love to help you find a bottle (or a few!) that you love.

Meet the Owner

Carolyn McCalley

Born and raised in Alabama, Carolyn is a College of Charleston graduate and a West Ashley resident. She opened August Wines to bring a boutique neighborhood wine shop to her community, sharing her love of intentionally produced wines in a one-stop-shop for everyday bottles all the way to special occasion or cellar picks.

She especially loves Gamay, Carménère, and Albariño. When not enjoying a glass or two, Carolyn can be found cooking, reading, or spending time with her husband, Nick, and dog, Como. She holds a WSET Level 2 Award in Wines with Distinction.
